Nokia N80

Phone Review" title="Nokia N80 Cell

The Nokia N80 is a multimedia device optimized for both work and play and aimed at the premium end of the market. It is Nokia´s most advanced all-in-one Nseries multimedia device. It is like the N71 and has no special focus on gaming, music or photo, like the N90
(photo) or the N91 (music). The idea of the phone and Nseries in general is to have one single device for entertainment, music, information and capturing and sharing pictures and videos.

This small Wi-Fi enabled phone (WLAN) IS also the world's FIRST UPnP mobile - the Nokia N80 can be used TO tap INTO the digital home network, acting almost AS a remote control, enabling access TO compatible PCs, audio equipment AND TVs. This means you could wirelessly VIEW images AND video stored ON the Nokia N80 ON the living room TV.

The N80 Camera
The N80 camera IS a 3 megapixel camera (2048 x 1536 pixel) 20x digital zoom. This IS MORE than the N71 AND N90 that use 2 megapixels (1600 x 1200 pixels). NO Carl Zeiss optics though (LIKE the N90). The N80 camera has FULL-screen landscape capture, AND a dedicated CLOSE-up mode switch. N80 also features CIF video capture WITH inbuilt video stabilization.

Display
The main display has a 352 x 416 pixel resolution AND up TO 262 144 colors. WITH a high quality screen LIKE this UI (USER interface) elements, LIKE fonts AND icons should be very smooth.

Battery
The battery life IS usually a problem IN many advanced phones. A big screen, video recording, listening
TO music AND USING applications reduces a lot OF the battery life. Nokia promises talk TIME FOR the N80 (GSM USAGE) up TO 3 hours AND stand-by
TIME up TO 8 days. IN reality, this could mean a DAY OR MORE without recharging if you use ALL the functions actively.

Operating system AND Memory
The phone IS based ON Symbian OS (operating system), S60 (3rd edition, Feature Pack 1), LIKE many other Nokia smartphones.

The N80 has a large 40 MB OF internal dynamic memory. FOR comparison the N71 has 10 MB, Nokia 6680 has about 8 MB free RAM AND the N90 has 48 MB total RAM memory. It IS always better WITH MORE memory AS this will allow developers TO CREATE MORE advanced software FOR the phone.

You can expand the storage capacity (FOR photos, music etc.) WITH a hot swap miniSD card OF up TO 2 GB, allowing you TO store up TO 1000 images OR nearly AS many songs IN the AAC music format. AAC IS the successor OF the popular MP3 music format AND also chosen by Apple AS the file format FOR their iTunes Music Store.

Connections and data Transmission
Nokia N80 IS a quadband handset designed to work on 3G (WCDMA 1900 OR 2100), WLAN, EDGE and four GSM bands (850/900/1800/1900), enabling broadband access from virtually ON up TO 5 continents. The N80 IS equipped WITH a USB 2.0 Pop-Port, Bluetooth 1.2 AND a IR-port (infrared). DATA transmission speed reach up TO 236.8 kbps IN EGPRS (EDGE) networks AND up TO 384 kbps IN 3G networks.

Audio
The N80 generates stereo sound AND supports many audio formats LIKE WMA, MP3, AAC, AAC+, AMR AND RealAudio. Thanks TO the integrated UPnP technology, it IS very easy TO transfer music BETWEEN the Nokia N80 AND a compatible PC.

Alternatively, you can transfer music via USB by dragging AND dropping FROM a compatible PC onto the device. You can transfer music FROM your PC TO your device WITH the Nokia Audio Manager, Windows Media Player, OR SOME other compatible software. WITH the Visual Radio you can listen
TO music AND interact WITH a radio station.

You have TO use the Nokia Audio Adapter included IN the sales package TO CONNECT a standard 3.5 mm headphone. If you buy the Stereo Audio Cable you can plug the phone INTO your home stereo.

SIZE
For a multifunctional device, which serves AS a phone, MP3 player AND AS a digital camera the weight isn´t that much (133 g). The dimensions FOR the N80 ARE (95 x 50 x 23 mm) AND makes it somewhat smaller than the N71. FOR comparison the N90 weights 173 grams, Ericsson P910i IS 155 g AND the Nokia 9300 IS 167 g.

The New Browser
The Nokia N80 supports the new Nokia Web Browser WITH Mini Map. According TO Nokia the browser gives a semi-transparent zoomed-out overall VIEW OF a web page, enabling users TO intuitively navigate TO ALL corners AS well AS see the web site AS it was originally designed. What that does this mean Anyway, the browser enables RSS feeds, so you can subscribe TO news AND receive regular updates.

The Nokia N80 is planned to be available IN the first quarter OF 2006 with an estimated, unsubsidized sales price OF approximately 600 USD / 500 euros.
